Los escribientes españoles e indígenas y el proceso de alfabetización en España y en México durante el s. XVI

Resumen

Este artículo se centra de manera general en la alfabetización y los tipos de escribientes que se dieron en España y en México durante el siglo XVI. Para ello se presenta el contexto histórico en el que participaron los escribientes tanto en occidente como en Nueva España. De esta manera, se podrá tener un acercamiento a personajes clave en el proceso de alfabetización de ambos lugares. Igualmente, se expondrán los distintos espacios donde los escribientes interactuaron, como el tipo de materiales didácticos que se utilizaron para la enseñanza de la doctrina cristiana. Para el caso de México, se tratará el tema de los escribientes indígenas, tomando como referencia tres oficios destacados, en el proceso de la evangelización en la sociedad indiana: escribano, maestro de primeras letras e impresor. Asimismo, se describirán un catecismo en imágenes y una cartilla, ambos realizados por Pedro de Gante.

Abstract
This article focuses in a general way on literacy and the types of scribes that occurred in Spain and Mexico during the 16th century. For this I present the historical context in which the scribes participated both in the West and in New Spain. In this way, it is possible to have an approach to key characters in the literacy process of both places. In addition, the different spaces where the scribes interacted will be exposed, such as the type of didactic materials that were used for the teaching of Christian doctrine. In the case of Mexico, the issue of indigenous clerks will be discussed, taking as reference three outstanding trades, in the process of evangelization in Indian society: notary, teacher of first letters and printer. Also, a catechism will be described in images and a primer, both made by Pedro de Gante.
