Los otomíes y su lengua según textos de religiosos del siglo XIX

Abstract

En este artículo se analiza la percepción que se tenía de los otomíes y su lengua en dos textos religiosos y uno filológico escritos durante la primera mitad del siglo XIX. En las obras se buscaron unidades de información acerca de las valoraciones del idioma y sus hablantes. Los juicios que expresaron los autores muestran la continuidad de las representaciones que desde la época colonial temprana se construyeron en torno a este pueblo. Por lo anterior, se considera que los otomíes y su lengua fueron clasificados y categorizados negativamente desde una perspectiva eurocentrista, con bases en los métodos científicos vigentes entonces.

Otomies and their language in texts of religious of the XIX century

Abstract
This article analyzes the perception about the Otomies and their language in two religious texts and one philological written during the first half of the 19th century. In the works, information units were sought about the appreciation of the language and their speakers. The judgments expressed by the authors show the continuity of the representations that from early colonial times were built around this people. Therefore, it is considered that the Otomies and their language were classified and categorized negatively from a Eurocentric perspective, based on the scientific methods in force at the time.
